Editor's note: The (9) was discontinued in May 2005, in favor of expanded (1) service, rendering the below information somewhat incorrect at present day.
The New York City Subway Lines Project:
1/9 Train (7th Avenue Local)
Although usually referred to as a single train, the 1/9 is actually two seperate trains the run the exact same line except for when they skip stop during rush hour, which is noted for individual stations below. The 1/9 Train runs from 242nd Street in The Bronx to South Ferry in Manhattan. They are always local trains except when skip stopping.
They are a part of the Red Line and while in midtown Manhattan can be found on 7th Avenue, thus the name.
