Babylon 5 Season 1, Episode 18. Written by
J. Michael Straczynski, directed by
Janet Greek. Originally aired on
July 27, 1994.
Primary Plot: The crew investigates unusual
seismic activity from the planet B5 is orbiting,
Epsilon 3.
Secondary Plot: One of
Delenn's old teachers,
Draal, visits B5.
Tertiary Plot: Riots break out on
Mars.
Commentary: "Hey, there's a big planet that
Babylon 5 orbits, let's actually bother to MENTION IT!" Even though
Signs and Portents was the first arc-heavy episode, this was the one that for me signaled that this was no ordinary television series--the escalating problems on
Mars had been mentioned in previous episodes, and they actually
happen here. This kind of continuing storyline hadn't really been seen in American programming prior to this (outside of
soap operas).
Also,
Draal is one of the few
Minbari in the entire series that actually have a
sense of humor.
