The sun rise makes me feel like such a child
Even through a car window
Somewhere near the border
Where the grass isn’t greener
On either side
Just scrub land and passport control
The dew doesn’t reflect anything
But tired faces
And the barrels of countless guns
The lack of humour in their smiles
Makes me think of waking you up in the night
To ask what the time is
At least we’re in time to see the day break
Open its eye slowly
And drag its frown into a look of surprise.
