Jotunheimen is a large
mountain range in
Norway.
The many summits are over 2,000 meters above sea level,
and the range contains no less that 20 of Norway's highest
peaks, including
Galdhøpiggen, Norway's highest mountain, and the second largest,
Glittertind, only 5 meters shorter. It is also hosts a large number of both small and large
glaciers.
Most of Jotunheimen has status as national park,
meaning that special regulations apply. No motor
vehicles are allowed, which makes the area ideally suited
for hikers and climbers
that enjoy the experience
of virtually untouched nature.
Etymology: Jotunheimen is named after the
giants of Norse mythology, and it
literally means the Home of Giants.
