Common expression used by coaches from the "Bobby Knight School" all around the world. These coaches tend to be firm disciplinarians and somehow believe that "running your ass" will make you a better person, and show an immediate impact upon your athletic skill. Most players often cower in fear from these types of coaches, especially the younger ones. As is the case with my coach, most new players will simply stand in the corner whimpering, trying to go unnoticed by the coach. They usually get their asses run. After a while, they will come to understand their particular coaches mind and get run less and less. However, the trangressions that usually lead to "running your ass" are numerous, and include, but are not limited to:
- Talking back to the coach
- Talking to the coach
- Not hustling
- Not hustling enough
- Not looking like you're hustling
- Eating
- Making a suggestion, orally or otherwise
- Showing up late for anything
- Showing up
- Going to the bathroom
- Cheering for your team
- Not taking something "seriously" (trust me, you never take anything seriously enough)
- Running (Yes, I know that doesn't make sense, but it's true)
- And finally: breathing, sitting, playing, coughing, sneezing, wheezing, laughing, crying, puking, or having fun of any sort will generally lead to "running your ass."
