A 16-voice polyphonic sampler/sequencer.

The 12-bit sampler's bitrate can be adjusted between 16, 32 and 44KHz. The memory is only 512kb, but there is a SCSI port included for storaging sounds. A low-pass VCF (CEM 3389) is included for sound modulation. Sadly, it isn't resonant.

The sequencer has a capacity of 50 000 notes and 8 separate tracks, with an adjustable (50-75%) swing. The interface is regarded as being very quick and intuitive. External instruments can be played from the sequencer via MIDI.

Released in 1986, the 440 was one of Sequential Circuits' last products. It is rare to find and the price is usually high, despite it being a very lo-fi sampler with limited capabilities.
