Walter and Louise Arensberg were the center of the universe as far as New York avant garde artworld was concerned from 1915 to 1920.

They were quite wealthy and were able to entertain the creme of the artists and Literati of New York. They supported many artists at the time, including Marcel Duchamp. Their collection occupies its own wing in the Philadelphia Museum of Art called the "Louise and Walter Arensberg Collection".
