An
improvement over the traditional
stop-motion animation techniques, created by
John Dykstra for
Star-Wars in
1977.
Unlike stop-motion, where movement appears choppy, go-motion utilizes a computer to add blur to each scene. This mimics more precisely the natural behavior of a real moving object caught on camera.
Today, go-motion (and stop-motion) have been made obsolete by CGI, but some say CGI will never be able to convey the nostalgia and surrealism of the old stop-motion movies.
