The Sea
The sun, like a lantern on a shelf,
somehow rests upon the tossing sea,
casting copper light across the rocky shore.
He doesn't seem to notice
how the bitter sunset winds
muss the ocean's soft white hair.
I'd give my eye for but an ounce
of his calm determination,
his serenity in chaos.
But I must go back inside
to copy down a few more words
before this sun gives way to moon;
I, too, am called to shine some light
(though not as bold as sunset's glow)
upon these rocky shores.
