The Amber Room was an 11-foot-square hall covered in panels of carved amber and other semiprecious stones.

In 1716, Fredrik William, the king of Prussia (later a part of Germany) presented the Amber Room to Russian Czar Peter the Great. Catherine the Great later commissioned a craftsmen to further embellish the room and moved it from the Winter Palace in St. Petersburg to her summer home in Tsarskoye Selo.

When Hitler's troops invaded the Soviet Union in 1941, his troops took Tsarskoye Selo, dismantled the Amber Room, and shipped it to Königsberg, Germany (Kaliningrad today).

After 1945, the Amber Room was lost. Many suspect that it was destroyed during the war. In 1997, a group of German historian/detectives found someone who was trying to sell a piece of the Amber Room. (idea)http://m.everything2.com/user/Certified+Geek/writeups/What+is+this+crap+about+trick-or-treating+on+Saturday%253FCertified Geekhttp://m.everything2.com/user/Certified+Geek2002-07-16T19:28:06Z2002-07-16T19:28:06ZWell, Wuukiee,
Being a child who was brought up in such a home, maybe I can answer your question (and probably create a few more, I shouldn't wonder).
In my family, it had nothing to do with Halloween being an "evil" holiday. It had to do with Sunday being a special day. LOTS of things weren't done on Sunday, not because they were evil, but specifically to make Sunday special.

A few examples:

No chores were done on Sunday.
We didn't play with friends on Sunday (Sunday was family day).
We didn't watch television, or go out to movies or stuff on Sunday.

The point of all of this was that Sunday was The Lord's Day, and it should be dedicated to Him. If we simply did all the stuff we might do on any other day, how was it then different from any other day?
Just as an aside, if Christmas came on a Sunday, we didn't go to Christmas parties on that day, either. It had nothing to do with…torpedo (idea)http://m.everything2.com/user/Certified+Geek/writeups/torpedoCertified Geekhttp://m.everything2.com/user/Certified+Geek2002-07-01T16:10:58Z2002-07-01T16:10:58ZTor*pe"do, v. t.

Slang term, referring to a "come on" tactic somtimes employed by well-endowed women to attract the attention of a man.
Describes the feigned accidental brushing or bumping of the breasts against the man's body, often the arm.

Example:
"Dude, I just got torpedoed!"
"Shut up. You're imagining things."

It is quite likely that most instances of "torpedoings" are completly in the imagination of the guy claiming to have been torpedoed. Most of them probably stem from accidental contact, for which the woman, if she is even aware of it, is often secrectly embarassed.

Still, some guys will make a huge deal out of having touched a woman's breasts, even if it was a complete accident. This is probably to make up for not actually being allowed to touch them by any women on purpose. Those who are so blessed rarely go around saying "Dude, I just got torpedoed!".
Eve 6 (person)http://m.everything2.com/user/Certified+Geek/writeups/Eve+6Certified Geekhttp://m.everything2.com/user/Certified+Geek2001-08-12T02:24:40Z2001-08-12T02:24:40ZEve 6 is also the name of a character in an episode of the television show The X-Files.

I have seen several rumors that this is, in fact, where the band got their name. According to rumor, they are huge X-Files fans, and used this obscure character as the name of the band.

In the episode, entitled "Eve", Mulder and Scully encounter two homocidal little girls, who are actually clones. The network had never really liked Star Trek, and now they were showing their disdain in every way possible asside from actually cancelling the show.

They had, in fact tried to cancel the show after the second season, but due to a massive letter writing campain by the fans, they decided to keep it. By the end of season three, however, not even an avalanche of letters could save the doomed sci-fi show.
