Grum's New Writeupshttp://everything2.com/?node=New%20Writeups%20Atom%20Feed&foruser=Grum2001-04-17T23:40:16ZApril 17, 2001 (idea)http://m.everything2.com/user/Grum/writeups/April+17%252C+2001Grumhttp://m.everything2.com/user/Grum2001-04-17T23:40:16Z2001-04-17T23:40:16Z
Cowardly.

As I mentioned in my previous log entry, someone systematically attacked my writeups, new and old, with negative votes. There seemed to be no other explanation except maliciousness.

It's happened again.

And I know it's the same person because it was a new batch of nodes this time, with no repeats. So I ask again...

Why?

If my nodes were really that bad, then why the previously positive votes I had received before this assault? I've even had a kind word or two sent to me (by fellow E2 denziens that I had never met before) after my previous log entry telling me that there didn't seem to be anything wrong with what I wrote in those nodes.

It's things like this that make E2 an enigma. But not one of those fun conundrums. No, more like a disconcerting puzzle that has no meaning other than to confuse and frustrate.

Well, whoever it is that's getting their kicks from attacking my
…April 16, 2001 (idea)http://m.everything2.com/user/Grum/writeups/April+16%252C+2001Grumhttp://m.everything2.com/user/Grum2001-04-16T16:53:02Z2001-04-16T16:53:02Z
Why?

Why would someone attack my random collection of nodes with negative votes? I had been away from E2 for a couple of days and I decided to use the E2 Node Tracker to see what's happened recently. And then it comes up on my screen that my total rep has dropped 18 points and my XP has dipped 7 in one attack. There were 20 separate attacks on my nodes (and surprisingly, a positive boost on one node), ranging from wrestling to baseball to television to computers to Elizabeth Taylor. Someone decided to give me a swift kick in the nuts.

I assume it was just one person since if there were a group of people I could have expected to see a multiple of attacks on each node. I just don't know why this person decided to downvote everything I've done. I've been very quiet in the catbox, I've sent only friendly messages to people, and my only debate was on the
…April 11, 2001 (idea)http://m.everything2.com/user/Grum/writeups/April+11%252C+2001Grumhttp://m.everything2.com/user/Grum2001-04-11T03:22:30Z2001-04-11T03:22:30Z
Wow.

I haven't written a writeup in a long time. Not because I don't want to, but because I just haven't felt the need to. I've been really busy at work and most of my free time that I have I've spent playing Black & White.

B&W is a very addictive game. It is also a very frustrating game. It is also a very important game. It takes the next step in gaming AI. You have to train your animal avatar to perform tasks and miracles for your people. If you are a lousy trainer, this game can be painfully tough. Even if you are a good trainer, sometimes the damn animal just won't play along. Sigh.

Now that I've finally come back to E2 and written something, maybe it'll help break the hold this game has on me. Maybe.

The finale involved an appearance (by satellite) of Vince McMahon who announced that he was going to shut down WCW for good. There has been speculation that most of the mid-priced contracts will be picked up by the WWF/WCW, that the weekly WCW show will be moved to TNN at a different date/time, that there will be some sort of "invasion" at the WWF Wrestlemania X-7 show on April 1, 2001 by the "disgruntl
…March 25, 2001 (idea)http://m.everything2.com/user/Grum/writeups/March+25%252C+2001Grumhttp://m.everything2.com/user/Grum2001-03-25T04:37:21Z2001-03-25T04:37:21Z
The story that must be told.

"Where does the nickname 'Grum', come from?" I get asked this question a lot, especially since my email, license plate and phone number contain the word. In fact, when I was still living with my parents (until I went to university), any time anyone would call my house for me, it was for "Grum", not "Graham". My parents and sister don't call me "Grum", my fiancee won't have anything to do with the nickname, and my co-workers don't know about it, but anyone from Toronto that knows me, calls me by that name. And here is why...

I like to tell people that it is just a shortened version of "Graham", that if you say my name fast enough, it sounds like "Grum". But that's not the truth. When I was in grade 9, the big movie at the time was "Rambo: First Blood Part II". So everyone was talking about Rambo. Rambo this, Rambo that. Eventually someone said, "Hey, let's call you 'Grambo'."
