The Motorola MC68000 CPU has 8 general purpose, and 8 address registers. The last address register can be referred to as A7 according to the standard naming convention or SP, since it doubles as the stack pointer.

The 68000 instruction set is often used in educational settings, because it is in wide use, and considered much clearer than the also widely used Intel x86 instruction set. Due, perhaps, to the undersexed nature of some undergraduate computer science students, this lead to an interesting bit of slang developed in my computer architecture class at UNC Chapel Hill. Since the word stacked can refer especially buxom women, A7 was adopted jokingly as local slang for a hot girl, as in: "Check out that girl over there - A7."

This silliness, of course, accompanied other inventive humor, such as additional meanings for stack overflow, etc. etc.

corporate espionage (idea)http://m.everything2.com/user/autonym/writeups/corporate+espionageautonymhttp://m.everything2.com/user/autonym2002-01-04T20:49:50Z2002-01-04T20:49:50ZCorporate espionage refers to corporations as either the targets or agents of spying. It is theoretically distinct from industrial espionage, though in practice, the two terms are used interchangeably.

While it can take on many forms, from theft of physical assets to sabotage, corporate espionage most commonly refers to the theft of intellectual property (IP). Most commonly, it involves attempts by one corporation to steal the IP of another corporation, either electronically or via a mole within the target corporation. Occasionally, however, especially within the defense industries, corporate espionage may involve spying on the part of a governmental agency.

There are two primary motivations behind corporate espionage: Firstly, an individual corporation may play this game towards their goal of maximizing shareholder value. Secondly, state-sponsored corporate espionage is an essential ingredient of modern day economic warfare.

Overview:

The latest incarnation of the DNA Lounge, under JWZ's ownership is now open. Actually,
they had their grand reopening on July 13th, 2001. It's located at 375 Eleventh Street in
San Francisco, California, and the phone number is (415)626-1409. There is a fair
amount of street parking, but beware the parking garage across the street - if you don't get
your car by 2am or so, you can't pick it up until they reopen in the morning (at 4am, I
believe).

The DNA Lounge is a night club in the truest sense of the word. The city of San Francisco tried to restrict the hours and operations of the club, but, thanks to a little bit of grass-roots activism, JWZ managed to get the permits necessary to keep the place open late. For most events, the doors open at 9pm and stay open until sometime the next morning. They do have to stop serving alcohol at 2am, but I believe the bar reopens at 6am. In other words, they are very serious about the late night

…Hector's (place)http://m.everything2.com/user/autonym/writeups/Hector%2527sautonymhttp://m.everything2.com/user/autonym2002-01-03T22:12:24Z2002-01-03T22:12:24Z
Quite possibly the best greasy American food around, Hector's is quite popular among UNC students. Located in downtown Chapel Hill, North Carolina, it is situated just off the edge of campus, and is within walking distance of all the local bars.

During the day, Hector's is a relatively quiet and relaxed place to grab lunch and watch the pedestrians pass by on the street below. The later it gets, however, the busier the place gets. By ten or eleven at night, it's usually crowded, noisy, and in need of better ventilation. It's a favorite with the 2am crowd, the only real competition being Cosmic Cantina and Time-Out - if you are looking for a late-night snack, be prepared to stand in line.

The food is good and guarunteed to satisfy your desire for grease. Everything is made to order, even the french fries, and if you aren't careful it's quite easy to burn your mouth. I highly recommend the Greek grilled cheese, though the cheeseburger on pita is a favorite as well. If you ever find yourself inebriated and hungry in Chapel Hill, you should definately check it out.
