ioctl's New Writeupshttp://everything2.com/?node=New%20Writeups%20Atom%20Feed&foruser=ioctl2000-12-16T20:31:47ZOur sensei (idea)http://m.everything2.com/user/ioctl/writeups/Our+senseiioctlhttp://m.everything2.com/user/ioctl2000-12-16T20:31:47Z2000-12-16T20:31:47ZSensei is like.. E2's father figure. He's the only guy (or girl) I know on here who just doesn't get pissed off at anyone or anything, or at least keeps cool and doesn't show it. Every node of his I've seen is informative or insightful in some way; he doesn't flame or post heavily opnionated/political material. And I just plain like the guy. He's helpful and patient, and I guess this gives me a chance to tell him (when he comes back and read's this node ;)).
It also serves to protect certain parts of the CNS. It circulates mainly through the four ventricles of your brain, and in the spinal cord's canals. The average human adult has between 80 and 150 ml (3 to 5 oz.) of CSF at any given time. It is clear and colorless, and liquid at room temperature. I believe (unfortunately I can't double check as it's not in my book, I learned this from my doctor), that we produce about 200 cc of CSF per hour. It is formed by filtration and secretion from choriod plexuses, specialized capillaries in the ventricles. It circulates continually. It is gradually absorbed into veins (normally as rapidly as it is formed). An obstruction or inflammation causes CSF to accumulate in the ventricles; this condition is called hydrocephalus and can cause pressure on the brain which results in brain damage. Inserting a shunt into the…Obfuscated C++ Contest (idea)http://m.everything2.com/user/ioctl/writeups/Obfuscated+C%252B%252B+Contestioctlhttp://m.everything2.com/user/ioctl2000-09-24T03:08:02Z2000-09-24T03:08:02Z
There is probably no such contest because ANSI C is valid C++, so the best entries would most likely just be (poor C++ but acceptable (well sort of)) ANSI C, and there's already the IOCCC to deal with that. Another problem is lack of decent complier support (read: valid C++ code doesn't always compile on all ANSI/ISO C++ compilers), although gcc/egcs is getting better every release it seems...
Fight fire with water (idea)http://m.everything2.com/user/ioctl/writeups/Fight+fire+with+waterioctlhttp://m.everything2.com/user/ioctl2000-09-14T02:10:12Z2000-09-14T02:10:12ZAlthough this may seem logical, the high amount of oxygen in water may actually feed the fire. More often than not you can douse a fire with water and successfully put it out, but, for example, an oil fire requires something like baking soda to put out.
