Always seems to happen around this time of the year.

I'm getting older, hopefully wiser, and definately more cynical, which is a bad thing. Of course, I've got my children to remind me of the important things.

"So, Dad, why do people make such a big deal about having money?"

"Well...", I paused, trying to put the worries of food, clothing and shelter into terms a seven year old could understand, "...money makes the world go 'round."

"But Dad, Love makes the world go around!"

Thank you son, for reminding me of that which I have tried to teach you.
May 30, 2002 (idea)http://m.everything2.com/user/kmcardle/writeups/May+30%252C+2002kmcardlehttp://m.everything2.com/user/kmcardle2002-05-30T13:08:20Z2002-05-30T13:08:20Z
Seven years ago today, my son was born.

My wife and I had discussed with the doctor ahead of time that I was going to cut the umbilical cord. It was only fitting that I was involved in the start of the whole process that I should be involved in the end.

Not wanting to waste an opportunity to say something memorable at that moment, I racked my brain for a few weeks ahead of the event looking for something to say. I came up with "You're on your own now". I'm cutting the cord, breaking the physical bond between mother and son. You know, "on his own" breathing, blood supply, etc. Witty, Terse. I was sure to have the labor room in hysterics.

There we were. Labor was intense. Birth was incredible. We made a little person. I remember him, all of 10 seconds old, lying on his mother's belly. The doctor pressed a pair of scissors in my hand so that I could cut the umbilical cord. I readied my cheesy words. One quick snip with the scissors and it was done.
…May 16, 2002 (idea)http://m.everything2.com/user/kmcardle/writeups/May+16%252C+2002kmcardlehttp://m.everything2.com/user/kmcardle2002-05-16T11:01:26Z2002-05-16T11:01:26Z
Two tickets: $15.00

It was recently my birthday. As usual, I was reflecting back on my life, reliving the high and low points. I quickly glossed over the low points, and concentrated on the highs.
