Recent polls indicate our target audience is tiring of the Taza/Lina thing. If this trend continues, ratings will undoubtably plummet! As a devoted member of the supporting cast and a steady guest star, Lina has consistantly contributed to the series, making the decision a tough one for the suits upstairs. In the end the bottom line must be upheld, so it is my sad duty to announce the departure of Lina from Taza World. We all wish her the best of luck with her HBO spin-off, Lina World. Expect the breakup scene to occur sometime on Monday,…Makoto Hyuga (person)http://m.everything2.com/user/yabai/writeups/Makoto+Hyugayabaihttp://m.everything2.com/user/yabai2002-08-23T18:50:21Z2002-08-23T18:50:21ZTaken directly from the "Guide to... Neon Genesis Evangelion" website:

"Though he may not look it, Makoto is actually an incredibly strong willed, determined and brave individual. He takes his job at NERV extremely seriously and doesn't think twice about laying his life on the line when it comes to battling against the Angels. Makoto would seem to be the type of person who doesn't get out that much, though this is more likely to be the result of the amount of effort he puts into his work as opposed to a problem of self confidence."

Ok, done quoting...

Makoto was sometimes refered to as "worthless guy number one" by my roommate, and anyone who watched Evangelion would understand why. He was one of those constant characters who showed up in every episode, but only in a supporting role. Makoto didn't get interesting until we learned he was working as a mole for Misato Katsuragi by illegally hacking through NERV's computer networks. He provided this…PPP-SSH VPN (thing)http://m.everything2.com/user/yabai/writeups/PPP-SSH+VPNyabaihttp://m.everything2.com/user/yabai2002-07-23T06:47:19Z2002-07-23T06:47:19ZA PPP-SSH VPN is a very simple Virtual Private Network that you can use to create an encrypted tunnel from one computer to another. Everyone can benefit from a little encryption in times like these, and this is just the thing for those up-to-date, fashion-conscious geeks who know that encrypting everything is all the rage.

The concept of the PPP-SSH VPN is easy to understand. PPP and SSH are two common utilities that should be familiar to most anyone who uses *nix. You can use PPP to establish a point-to-point connection between two computers, while using SSH to encrypt the traffic. Finally, you should use a firewall (ipchains/iptables, for instance), to deny all traffic other than SSH. This is really handy if you find yourself regularly connecting to a server over an insecure network (the Internet).

Uses for a PPP-SSH VPN include:
If someone can control it from the ground, someone else can control it from the ground. Thus, this would lead to people hijacking a plane through hacking the control system. Perhaps "hack-jacking". You mention the strong encryption, but that will be broken. It always is. It would also incur great costs in research for new encryption systems and implementing those systems every time one is hacked. But then, only one being hacked would be enough for massive destruction, thus defeating the purpose.

You also mention that the military uses this technology already, and you may point out that they haven't been hacked. My response to this is that they have the power to keep technology classified. The public sector would not have this luxury. The technology would be widespread, as I expect it would be implemented for every airline in the nation. Being so widespread,…vis sit tecum (idea)http://m.everything2.com/user/yabai/writeups/vis+sit+tecumyabaihttp://m.everything2.com/user/yabai2001-09-02T19:14:34Z2001-09-02T19:14:34Z"Vis sit tecum" is latin for the familiar phrase "may the Force be with you." After taking latin for two years, this is close to all I remember. Many geeks will already possess this knowledge, as Star Wars is a major geek pillar, and latin is perhaps the geek language of choice.

You can pronounce this one of two ways. The correct way, as taught to me by my magister (and thus, perhaps subject to debate...), is to pronounce the "v's" as "w's", the "a" should be long, and the "c" should be hard. Wis sit tay-kum.

The most popular method for incorrecly pronouncing the phrase would be with a "vee-" sound at the beginning of "vis". This is how most people will pronounce "veni, vidi, vici", which will make a latin teacher reach for their sidearm.

It's been moved to the television medium in Japan, and fan-subbed copies of the episodes have made their way to the US.
