The sequel to 2010: Odyssey Two, and the third book in Arthur C. Clarke's Space Odyssey series. Although, the Author's Note in the beginning of the book states:

Just as 2010: Odyssey Two was not a direct sequal to 2001: A Space Odyssey, so this book is not a linear sequel to 2010. They must all be concidered as variations on the same theme, involving many of the same characters and situations, but not necessarily happening in the same universe.

Most of the story is located on Europa where a space ship had practicly crash landed. Because Jupiter's recent transfomation into a mini-star, the atmospheric conditions became suitable enough for terrestrial live to exist on Europa. All other landing attempts on the moon were forbidden, and prevented by the monolith there.
