A novel by Paul Edwin Zimmer. All the foul forces of darkness in the land have risen up to strike at a dwarf/elven fortress guarding a great evil. A hurried defense includes the gathering of all the greatest mortal warriors to be found (including Ingulf the Mad and Istvan "The Archer" DiVega, the greatest living swordsman from The Lost Prince/King Chondos' Ride).
Not much of a story per se, the entire book is essentially one long fight along the defenses of the elven fortress and in the dwarven tunnels. You follow a couple specific characters among the heroes and watch the battle unfold over the few days of the battle. filled with Zimmer's "trademark" detailed sword fights, though, that make it a fun read.
