Although many critics didn't like it, claiming it was too much like the bands
first album Parachutes, I think In My Place is Coldplay's best song,
although it was much less hyped than their 2000 hitsingle Yellow. It was produced directly after Parachutes was released, so it didn't make it on the album.
Songwriter and Leadsinger Chris Martin said, that, after their last album and the hype that followed, he really felt tired, and had no idea where to start on with their next album, 'till they went on a 2-weeks tour through the US, where they regained their spirit. Martin stated in an interview that their aim was nothing less than to create the genuinely best music in the world.
