ABV is an abbreviation for Average By Volume. It is legally required to label the container of any beverage in the UK containing more than 1.2% alcohol with its ABV.

To work out the volume of alcohol in any given drink using the following formula:

% ABV x Specific Gravity = g alcohol/100 ml
