AES/EBU specifies the standard used to transmit and receive digital audio in professional gear. AES stands for Audio Engineering Society, a US organization, while EBU stands for European Broadcast Union.

AES/EBU transmits a balanced digital signal and uses 3 pin XLR connectors and cables. Unlike the similar consumer standard, S/PDIF, AES/EBU does not support copy management.
