American Motors produced the Rambler station wagon from the 1950's to the 1970's. I drove a hideous green one for several years in the 1970's.
Affectionately known as the ram-bel-air (to make it sound as if it had class), the car survived through thick and thick past the 140,000 mile mark. There was an after-market air conditioner that had a "desert" setting that would chill the inside to about minus four degrees in the middle of a Texas summer. It even had, horror of horrors, an eight-track tape player that I installed myself with a screw-driver and a hacksaw.
The best feature of all, however, was the fact that the front seats folded flat back, making it the best make-out wagon in the world. The back seat folded forward, allowing one to create a surreal all-flat interior that was great fun on camping trips.
Sigh. Sure miss that car.
