The Affentaler family of wines is an old one. Dating back to the year 1250 the Zisterzienser Nuns at the Lichtenthal Convent first began growing the Spaetburgunder grapes used in this wine.

The Spaetburgunder grapes are grown in the Ave Valley, where they are picked by hand, and and developed in large oak barrels.

This wine is ruby red in color, and most examples come in the distinctive monkey bottle that this brand is most famous for, (although there are varieties of this wine available in normal bottles as well).
