Alfrodull, also transliterated as Alfrothul and related to the name Asphodel, is the sun in Norse mythology, and literally means "glory of elves". In earlier times, the sun was thought to be a chariot driven by a girl, Sol, and pulled by two horses, Arvak and Alsvid. Sol would give off the sun's heat, and the horses' manes the light. The girl's passage through the sky was due to being chased by the wolf Fenrir AKA Skoll.

Before the coming of Ragnarok, the end of the world, Sol is to be caught and eaten by the wolf, but not before giving birth to a daughter who would take her place.
