Amherst College

Amherst College is a liberal arts college in Western Massachusetts with 1,600 students. It's coed and the team name is the Lord Jeffs (named after Lord Jeffrey Amherst, a Brit who killed lots of Native Americans in the Northeast US and Canada... but the school claims to be named after the Town of Amherst, which is named after the guy). Amherst College is part of the five college consortium, along with Hampshire College, Mount Holyoke College, Smith College and The University of Massachusetts at Amherst. Amherst College was founded in 1821. Their president is Tom Gerty. Their motto is Terras Irradient ("Let them give light to the world"), and their school colors are purple and white. Their campus is 1000 acres. As of 6/30/00 the college had an endowment of $912,000,000.
