- from The Book of Yelps and Growls

Once upon a time Entropy had a grandmother.
Before she died she would knit him funny old-fashioned stockings with a stitch patterned after the Cosmos and extra wool for comfort and warmth.
While she worked she sang folk songs. Ancient melodies of the sort that are pleasing to the ear and blisteringly easy to write.
When she died, Entropy's grandmother left him with thirty-three pairs of stockings, which were more than he needed, but he wore them out with guilt.
