Greek poems, found in the
Palatine Anthology, under the heading "
Anacreon of
Teos'
Sympotic Hemiambics". Some of them refer to
Anacreon or actually adopt his persona. They are all in metres derived from him and deal with
wine and
love. They are by no means 'deep' poetry, but are definitely fun.
Some of them were attributed to Anacreon already in Antiquity, and after their republishing in the 16th century were frequently referred to as "The Odes of Anacreon". They influenced consequent European lyric poetry greatly.
In the 19th century it was proved that all these poems were dated much later than Anacreon's time, and show widely varying levels of technical competence. They were shown to have been composed at different dates between the 1st century BC and the 6th AD.
