The official starting date of the
Armenian Genocide. On April 24th,
1915, the
Young Turk government of
The Ottoman Empire summoned, gathered, and
hanged several hundred
Armenian leaders in its capital of
Istanbul. From this point on, for the next eight
years, a total of 1.5 million Armenians were murdered and another 1
million were deported from their
native homeland of centuries.
On this date every year, Armenians around the world gather to commemorate the first genocide of the twentieth century.
