A sign commonly seen next to useless and overpriced gadgets that you can buy by calling a toll-free number and have delivered to your home by paying inexplicably high shipping rates.

Some examples (all true, taken from the internet web sites that promote those products):

On a recent trip to a home improvement store, I saw about 5 different products that were all knock-offs of the Tap Light which is sold on TV. All of the knock-offs had variations of the As Seen on TV decal that the Tap Lights had on their packages. Some examples I saw were:

  • Similar to products seen on TV
  • Comparable to products seen on TV
  • Almost as seen on TV

Apparently As Seen on TV is important to some focus group somewhere, because marketing departments obviously place a lot of emphasis on it as a way to validate their products to their consumers.
