As seen on TV

Some examples (all true, taken from the internet web sites that promote those products):

• HGH-7000: Some pills that will make you lose fat and gain muscle, increase your bone mass, improve your skin texture, smoothen and reduce your wrinkles, improve your energy, improve your outlook on life and much more...
• Power Antenna: Just plug into any outlet and watch as your entire house becomes your TV antenna.
• The Singing Animated Fish: Of course, our list would not be complete without it. Your friends will be amazed (with your bad taste?) when this ordinary looking fish in a wooden frame turns his head, flaps his tail and sings...

On a recent trip to a home improvement store, I saw about 5 different products that were all knock-offs of the Tap Light which is sold on TV. All of the knock-offs had variations of the As Seen on TV decal that the Tap Lights had on their packages. Some examples I saw were:

• Similar to products seen on TV
• Comparable to products seen on TV
• Almost as seen on TV

Apparently As Seen on TV is important to some focus group somewhere, because marketing departments obviously place a lot of emphasis on it as a way to validate their products to their consumers.
