Azanulbizar is the valley outside the great gates of the dwarf-kingdom of Khazad-dûm. This is where Balin, the last king of Moria was slain by the orcs that had taken hold there, and is where Durin first glanced upon the Kheled-zâram. The last great event recorded in this place was in the year 2799 of the Third Age when the last battle between the Dwarves and Orcs took place; Balin and his kin overcame the resident orcs but Balin lost his own life in the process.
