Be*bee"rine, ∨ Be*bi"rine (?), n. Chem.

An alkaloid got from the bark of the bebeeru, or green heart of Guiana (Nectandra Rodiei). It is a tonic, antiperiodic, and febrifuge, and is used in medicine as a substitute for quinine.
