Given name for Beethoven's 14th Piano Sonata. Starts off in a very dark C# minor, very slowly, and progresses through various key and scale steps for the first movement.

The second movement consists of a somewhat happier tone, with quickly caught chord structures. It is very short, and prepares you for...

The third movement. Oh baby. This is (in my opinion) the pinnacle of the piece. It starts off very quickly, climbing C# minor scales with fierce aggression and passion (lots of pathos, even though this isn't Sonata Pathetique). A masterous piece, kudos to anyone who can play it.
