The Beretta 89 Standard is a "blow back" semi-automatic pistol.

The "blow back" is the effect that is the pressure from the combustion gasses recoiling the slide, ejecting the fired cartridge, cocking the hammer, and then activating the recoil spring. The slide will then move back forward, causing the next round to enter the chamber.

This weapon is designed for competitions and range firing.
