Centaurus the Centaur. Beta Centauri is 1500 times as luminous as the sun but appears dimmer than Alpha because it is 190 light-years (as opposed to 4.3) away.
The proper original Arabic name of Beta Centauri is Wazn. For the record, the Centauri in these star's names pertains to Centaurus, the constellation within which they're located.
