Written by John Howard Griffin in 1959 (published 1960), it is the true story of a white writer who stains his skin black and wanders around the southern United States as a black man. It is as amazing as it is disturbing and is an absolutely perfect examination of the way one's identity is affected by the way you are treated. Although Griffin's method's and intentions are not without grounds for philosophical critique, this book is outstanding and ought to be required reading for everyone.
