A river in Tidewater Virginia, perhaps better defined as a wide swamp with a channel. Defines the boundaries of several counties, notably Surry, Sussex, Southampton, and Isle of Wight (notice that this is the part of Virginia that was definitely first explored by English people) and floods frequently, immersing towns that were stupidly built close enough to the "river" to be flooded, like Franklin and Claremont.
