An unfortunate choice of band name leads many people to overlook this band in search of more serious music. Afterall, the musicians in the genres of Stoner and Doom Metal aren't known for taking their business lightly, and the fans are searching for something crushingly heavy and suitably mind-melting, not something throw-away and forgettable. The band's choices for album covers are equally off-putting, with their first LP cover consisting of a chalice filled with marijuana buds.
However, a brief listen to Bongzilla will set aside any lingering doubts. These guys know how to write good riffs. Combining slow sludgery with almost bluesy rhythms, they succeed in creating something that makes you feel intoxicated, even when you're not.
