Often simply called BGP. The exterior gateway protocol used by most routers for inter-Autonomous System AS routing. It provides network reachability information for neighboring Autonomous Systems (ASs).

The current version is BGP-4 and it is described in detail by RFC 1771.

BGP uses TCP port 179.
