French astronomer and geodesist. Born 1714, died 1784.
Like his father and grandfather before him, César François Cassini de Thury continued the family tradition of being director of the Paris Observatory. However, he spent most of his time on trigonometric measurements, and in 1744 he began the publication of a topographic atlas of France. He published several works on geodesics.
The name "de Thury" comes from the family estate near Clermont.
