Technicaly The Canadian Flag is a red flag with a white stripe (exactly half the width of the flag) down the middle, on which is the red maple leaf. Because the flag is exactly half as high as it is wide, the stipe becomes a square. All this was so it could be blazoned, which still required a new ordinary(the Canadian Pale). The actual blazon is Gules, on a canadian pale argent, a maple leaf of the first.
