Cannibal Ox is an
underground hip-hop act on the
Def Jux record label, based out of
New York City. Consists of Vordul Megilah and Vast Aire on the
mic, with music and sound production done by El-P. Releases include The F-Word EP and 2001's
The Cold Vein which received much critical acclaim from the
independent music scene and comes highly recommended.
Their music could best be described as the "inverse of hip-hop", with a very scattershot, dense framework, utilizing blasts of
noise as well as
phat beats. This is not
Dr. Dre. The flows are complex and difficult to understand, but rewarding and intelligent once you make out what's being said.
