1°)
Maman Dion's niece.
2°) The most brilliant
voice of today's
popular music, singing some of
popular music's crappiest songs ever. Could have been a modern
Edith Piaf. Decided to become just another
Barbra Streisand clone - except that Barbra actually sang nice songs sometimes. Utterly manipulated by her husband Rene (think something between
Marlon Brando in
The Godfather, and
Relic in
aftery2k), she became one of the most impressive
cash machines in recent history, second only to
General Electric and of course
Slashdot.org (although I'm unsure about the former).
People love her voice, her smile, her innocence and her
Quebecois accent (especially when she speaks
French - "J'voudrais r'mercier mon paaaiir', ma maaaaiiir'...") just as much as they despise all of that. Still, her talent is undeniable when you hear her sing older,
good songs (eg
Jacques Brel's
"Quand on n'a que l'amour"). The spoiling of such a treasure as Celine Dion's voice will be remembered in the future as one of
capitalism's greatest crimes against humanity (and music).
