A
Brazilian film made in 1998 which is a
road movie
(like
Thelma and Louise) concerning a boy's
quest to find his
father, aided by Brazil's
most famous actress
Fernanda Montenegro.
The boy is Josue (Jesus), his brothers are Isaiah and Moses.
See a theme here? The movie shows the real Brazil
of vigilante justice, organ harvesting from
street kids, and the great poverty and religious
fervor of the country. "I am a Franciscan from
the bottom of my heart]" a peasant says to the statue
of Jesus.
It was a very touching movie but Life is Beautiful
won the Oscar for Best Foreign Film in 1999.
Initially the IMDB voting was rigged so that this
got an average rating of over 9.0 out of 10. Many
thousands of votes had to be deleted.
