Chaashuu is fried pork (buta) found commonly in Japanese ramen. Chaashuu is very fatty and therefore has a very sweet and oily taste.

Most ramenya have special chaashuu ramen and more often than not, chaashuu can be ordered as a side dish to ramen.

Written usually in katakana, the word chaashuu is actually a Chinese loan word which is written in 2 uncommon kanji not usually used in modern Japanese.

At some ramenya, the chaashuu is char siu but at most places it is not red in color and are more oily and fatty.
