Chaim Herzog, (1918-1997)

Born in Belfast, Northern Ireland to the Chief Rabbi of Ireland.
Moved to Israel at 17.

Served in the British Army during the second world war, and left with the rank of lieutenant-colonel. Also served in the IDF, where he attained the rank of major-general. He retired from the military in 1962

He was Israel's ambassador to the UN (1975-1978).

He entered the Knesset in 1981 as a member for the Labour Party, and was made president in 1983. He used his role in improve Israel's standing abroad, and left the presidency in 1993.

He died on April 17th, 1997.
