Cincinnati's
original airport. Located about 5
miles east of
downtown, it now primarily is used for
general aviation and
corporate jets.
Per their web page, the longest runway is 6,100 feet long, and
can handle aircraft up to 135,000 pounds.
The terminal is an old art deco building that dates back to right
around World War II. There is a restaurant there, and a few flight
schools. An annual air show is hosted at Lunken.
A bike path circles the airport proper and a playfield/golf
course at the northern end. Cyclists can experience, at at least
two points, the sense of a LearJet taking off right over them.
A bonus treat: a park overlooks the airfield--you can
actually look down on the planes taking off and landing, which is
quite neat. You can also watch planes that tow banners pick up the
banners by diving down, snatching them, then pulling up
sharply.
