1990 work of non-fiction by Southern Californian writer, Mike Davis. City of Quartz examines the modern history and trends of Los Angeles from several different angles. Criticized by some because of exaggeration and some dubious facts, the book was largely well-received because of its shrewd observations and has been, in some circles, hailed as prophetic.

Davis takes on trends prevalent in the development of Los Angeles from a small, backwater town into the teeming metropolis it is today. Examining in various chapters such varied topics as the water rights battles, the development of caltech, the Hollywood entertainment industries, and racism and segregation.
