The Company of Science and Art. Founded sometime around 1990-91 in Providence, RI by recent graduates of Brown University's computer science program. CoSA began life as a publisher of CD-ROMs, but soon shifted gears to become a software tools company, selling some of the first software to play video from a CD-ROM, PACo (the Pics Animation Compiler). When Apple released Quicktime, CoSA dropped PACo and developed After Effects. CoSA was eventually bought by Aldus, which was in turn bought by Adobe Systems.
