Colonial Athletic Association

The Colonial Athletic Association, CAA, is a NCAA Div. I Conference. The member teams compete in basketball, soccer, baseball, field hockey, lacrosse, volleyball, and other sports. The conference was founded June 6, 1985.

The CAA:

• American University
• East Carolina University
• George Mason University
• James Madison University
• Old Dominion University
• College of William and Mary
• University of North Carolina, Wilmington
• University of Richmond
• Virginia Commonwealth University

Back to NCAA Division I

The CAA will be going through some big changes in the next two years.

For 2001-02:
• East Carolina University will be leaving to become a full member of Conference USA (they are founding members of CUSA football).
• University of Richmond will be joining the Atlantic 10 (replacing Virginia Tech, which left for the Big East).
• American University will be joining the Patriot League.

For 2001-02, the CAA will be absorbing four former members of the America East Conference:
• Drexel University
• Hofstra University
• University of Towson
• University of Delaware
