Courvoisier is a cognac produced in France since 1811, when it was supposedly supplied to Emperor Napoleon I. Courvoisier produces several cognacs, from lowest to highest quality: VS (Very Superior), VSOP (Very Superior Old Pale), VSOP Exclusif, Napoleon, FCN, XO Imperial, Initiale Extra and L'Esprit de Courvoisier.

From what I've tasted (the reasonably priced VS), it has a strong flavor reminiscent of red wine. But I'm no expert on cognac, or wine for that matter. Here's an interesting description from the back label:

"Legend has it that Napoleon held Emmanuel Courvoisier's cognac in such high esteem that he took with him hundreds of bottles to enjoy during his years in exile. This reserve became known as 'Le Cognac de Napoleon', a description still proudly borne today on all Courvoisier cognac."
