The category four cyclone that devastated the Northern Territory's capital, Darwin on Christmas Day 1974.

Official reports say 65 people were killed, 145 seriously injured and 500 received minor injuries, 70 per cent of the city's houses were destoyed.

Wind gusts exceeded 217 kilometres an hour and the eye of the cyclone had a 12 kilometre diameter.
